Occupy Wall St

IMG00689-20111013-1754

There's not much I can say about this movement that others have not. I fully support each and every person trying to regain a sense of democracy and freedom of speech amidst the jarring reality of NYPD brutality and corporate greed. I've been down a few times and wanted to share the blurry photos of Zuccotti Park I took on my camera phone the first night I went down.

There is a real feeling of change and movement going on. Everyone is hopeful that we will win back a sense of common decency and right the wrongs that have happened in the past. Tiffany should have a post coming soon of her own more awe-inspring experience yesterday at Times Square where Occupiers celebrated not being evicted from the park by wearing white.

For more information on what is going on from the ground and not the corrupt media go to http://occupywallst.org/ and http://anonops.blogspot.com/ .

One final note, google took my blog down on friday. Clearly it's back up but for the last couple of days I really felt shaken that MY personal voice could be stifled and shutdown. I'm glad and grateful for my blogger friends who explained how to get it back and who to contact. Thank you Matthew!

So glad to see you're back - I thought you'd deleted your blog! People seem to have trouble with Blogger...you're one of many whose blog has been removed, as far as I can tell. Weird! But hurrah for being back, and thanks for the coverage :)

Hi Brandon,
Great, your blog is getting more political but this is the Zeitgeist. You just got it as in fashion so in politics. Maybe we should found the first social fashion party- free shoes for everyone over 16! Ha Ha…
I went last weekend to’ Occupy The London Stock Exchange’ too. My first demonstration in my life but I think too, it is time to do something. We can not keep ignoring the whole financial crisis or just complaining in front of the TV. It is time to move our spoilt asses and really physically demand change.
‘If someone puts a car on fire it is a crime if 100 people do it is a protest! I do not ask for violence!! I just want to make clear that the more people demand change the higher the chance is we get it.

Just some numbers and facts: The average household income has gone done -4% since the 1970. That means we earn -4% less than 30 years ago. On the other hand the salary of a CEO has gone up 500% compared to the 70's. Now we see why we are all in depts. I just read that the electricity and gas companies used the have a profit margin of 30% per person in the UK about 5 years ago- this has gone up to 125% per person. This is what our government regulator found out. The next day I read in the papers that a Conservative MP warned the regulator not to bee too harsh to the gas& electricity companies since otherwise the companies might withdraw a 200 million investment package for new cables etc etc for the UK! Of course our company can not pay for it since most companies just stopped paying taxes in this country.

The next day I read the papers that a Conservative MP warned the regulator not to bee to harsh to the gas& electricity companies since otherwise the companies might withdraw a 200 million investment for new cables etc etc from the UK? There we go- we get robed but the government regulator must keep his mouth shut. Honestly what the fuck is going on. We are cattle and right now we still have some milk they (I mean the upper 1%) can squeeze from us but what happens if the milk is gone? Are they going to kill us?

And what pisses me off the most when politicians and people who know just everything say:

‘The western countries have social systems which can not be paid for anymore?’.

Why can it not be paid for anymore? We have 2 trillions for backing up the banks and I do not know how much was the last rescue package for the USA- was it 135 billion? Just for the USA alone! Can you imagine how a health system could look like with that money?
What happened to what we already had- they are taking it away from us! It must be possible, mustn't it?

PS: Thanks for your always inspiring posts

In the light of such amazing comments I wish I could articulate my thoughts into something longer, but as it is - I love that peaceful action like this happens, and I really do hope it starts waking people up. Social responsibility is down to the individual just as much as it is down to society as a whole, so it's nice to see people taking an interest and trying to change things for the better.

Also, thanks for coming out today and missing all your yoga classes!

Sean - Thanks Sean! Yeah I was really worried too but now FP is back up. I wonder if I will ever post again though. I am seriously questioning this medium of writing. I dunno...

Prutha -Thanks for putting your post up! LOVED IT! Looking forward to a thrift day!

Raj - Thanks Raj for all that information! This is an exciting time we are living in. People are beginning to "wake up and smell the coffee" and we'll be the better for it.

Syed - Agreed! No matter how much awful police brutality has occurred protestors are remaining peaceful. It's so much more powerful this way! Let's see where this leads.

Tiffany - I LOVE YOU AND SEVERELY MISS YOU!
