Just a quick post on tonight's launch party at the Tribeca Issey Miyake store, AKA Heaven. As I have already described the line in my previous post. I'll just go straight into the photos:
Description of the new line from the company

Exciting words from the man himself. What new ideas will come out of this project I wonder?

PET = what the millions of plastic bottles we throw into landfalls get turned into at recycling plants

5 means much more then just the amount of times one can wear the garment. Looking forward to these new permutations.

Few words describing Reality lab and conceptualizing these clothes further...
Ipads for viewing the collection were on hand in typical Miyake technological fashion.

Now you can drink Issey water too! (they were given out to attendees and of course I dropped mine fumbling for my keys :( ). The irony of course is that Evian pretty much is what the clothing is made out of in terms of plastic bottles...

The Frank Gehry designed store is still attention grabbing and fresh nearly 10 years after completion

More pictures of the "metal tornado"

The clothes!!!!!

This unfolds into one of these beautiful garments.

This is made of a top and a skirt. Everyone who works at the store and office below was wearing pieces from the collection and the skirts are really beautiful and sculptural. People need to get on this band wagon. These need to be the new office skirt! Please? For me?

Blurry dress (sorry)

Details

Every pleat is heat set in (so please cold hand wash sparingly!)
The VERY Stylish attendees! (wish I had got more photos of everyone). It was lovely to meet so many new Miyake fanatics. A shout-out to the ladies over at Idiosyncratic Fashionistas whom I initially found out through my friend Elisa's online magazine Style Like U, you girls are walking inspirations!

There is that lovely skirt, on Brittany the PR force behind US Miyake

My friend Larissa and old boss when I interned at Miyake. As usual dressed perfectly in one of her many Madam T scarf (worn as a dress) and collection

Classic Bilbao Bag

Details of the perfect pleats n' earings combo

Another stylish Miyake minion in the pants which I am dying to try on (will do over the weekend hopefully!)
As promised: the outfit

[Issey Miyake APOC fringe coat/cardigan, Versace cashmere sweater, Uniqlo flannel shirt, thrifted Laura Ashley skirt (Beacons Closet), Lanvin sweatpants, Alejandro Ingelmo sneakers and vintage elephant necklace]
Details:

Signature vintage elephant necklace I got last year at the Brooklyn Flea (AKA costume jewelry heaven!). I found out earlier this year that it was probably part of a belt due to its size)

as you can see the skirt is not a floral but a very appropriate seasonal berry print!

My nicely broken in Alejandro Ingelmo hi-tops (I actually wore them in brown/gold on the night but didn't have access at the time I took these photos)

To say this was a successful event was an understatement. It was crowded throughout with a huge variety of guests and many were buying too! In fact I do believe that several styles are already sold out. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Issey-san will design a new collection.

The shapes are so complex!
A more fabulous development in fashion and textiles cannot be found. Thank you so much for posting about this in such depth! I'm a huge fan of Issey Miyake, and I can't wait to see more!
Joy - Thanks for the comments! I'm going to do 1 more post now that I have the official press documents etc and also hopefully I'll get to try some of the garments on and see how they look and feel on!
Aesthetic Alterations - Any fan of Issey is a friend of mine! He is my all time favourite designer and definitely doesn't get the exposure he deserves!
love that dress!
Fits in with my college brief, geometry in motion.
